Sleep Disorders

Most people will have experienced some sort of sleep issues at some point in their lives, but this is usually a temporary problem and generally resolves itself after a short amount of time.

However, when our sleep patterns are continuously interrupted over a longer period of time, then this can lead to sleep disorders such as insomnia.  The more we obsess and worry about the possibility of not being able to fall asleep, the less likely it is that we will be able to do so.

We don’t all necessarily need the same amount of sleep, some of us may need more, or less than others, but the quality of our sleep patterns is so important to our overall physical and mental wellbeing.

When we sleep, we go through sleep cycles, which include periods of REM sleep (rapid eye movement).  REM sleep is a dream state, and it is our brain’s natural method of processing our experiences and thoughts, so if we have had a bad day, our REM sleep puts everything into perspective while we are sleeping, so when we awaken, we feel less stressed or upset about the events of the previous day.  Sadly, REM sleep is restricted to about 20% of our sleep patterns, so if we are not getting enough sleep, then we do not get enough REM sleep to be able to process our stress or anxiety.  This means that when we wake up, the stress or anxiety is still there, and it will continue to disrupt our sleep patterns until it is dealt with.

Symptoms of poor sleep can include:

Anxiety, irritability, low mood, low energy levels, fatigue, as well as poor eating habits, because we make poor choices and bad decisions when we are sleep deprived.

Hypnotherapy is a quick and very effective way of helping you to get your sleep patterns back on track, allowing you to cope with whatever life throws at you, in a calm and positive manner, enabling you to enjoy life to its full potential once again.

The most common sleep disorders are:

Difficulty falling asleep

Disturbed Sleep (Waking in the night)

Difficulty waking up on a morning

Waking up too early
